Patients and public

Research is essential in gaining a clearer understanding of disease and how it is best managed.

It is not just about testing new medicines—we conduct studies that could improve care quality and experience for our patients. Many current treatments are the result of research in the past—hence our motto ‘Today’s research is tomorrow’s care’.

Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) is important to the work of the research department at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This ensures that the research and innovations we support reflect what matters to the people who will use them.

We are committed to active involvement of patients, carers and public in our research—working with researchers in partnership to develop, plan, manage and carry out and present research.

Involvement can include:

  • Joining our Research Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Forum
  • Sharing your own experience to help us improve the research process
  • Review and advise on usefulness of patient information sheets for new studies we are sponsoring
  • Contribute to decisions on which projects get funded by the Joint Research Committee
  • Help us focus involvement in research in a specific area of your interest and experience i.e. maternity, HIV, cancer, child health, etc.
