Pathology services

What we do

Pathology services at the Trust are provided by North West London Pathology, an NHS partnership which includes:

  • Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
  • Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
  • The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

This new model for delivering pathology services covers:

  • biochemistry
  • haematology and blood transfusion
  • histopathology (tissue examination) and cytology (cell examination)
  • immunology and microbiology, including serology (blood serum)
  • virology (viruses)
  • infection control

We test approximately six million samples each year. Around seven out of ten patients who come into hospital or who visit their GP will have a pathology test done to assist in making a diagnosis or to monitor treatment.

Our consultant haematologists provide a comprehensive inpatient, day unit and outpatient clinic service and we are licensed by the Human Tissue Authority for the activities under the Human Tissue Act, 2004.

Our Pathology Service Director is Dr Nupur Goel (Consultant Microbiologist, Infection Prevention and Control Doctor). Our Director of Infection Prevention and Control is Dr Nabeela Mughal. The Pathology Services Manager is Matthew Rubin.
