Rheumatology (children)

What we do

Our consultant-led rheumatology clinic at West Middlesex specialises in the diagnosis, management and follow-up of children and young people with juvenile idiopathic arthritis, joint hypermobility, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), back pain, generalised body ache and other musculoskeletal problems,  Raynaud’s phenomenon or disease, and other rheumatologic conditions up to 16 years of age.

We run one consultant-led rheumatology clinic three times a month. We are supported by Great Ormond Street Hospital for complex cases and shared care for patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis.

We provide a blood monitoring (phlebotomy) service for juvenile idiopathic arthritis patients on methotrexate. Consultant-led prescriptions are provided for special medication and these medications are provided by day care unit staff. Special training is provided to parents for methotrexate injection.

We improve our service by listening to parents and doing regular audits and surveys.
