Speech and language therapy (children)

What we do

Our team works with children who have eating and drinking difficulties as inpatients (at both hospital sites).  We provide specialist services to support children to reach their maximum potential to eat and drink safely. Children referred to our service will be seen by one of team members for a clinical feeding assessment which entails taking a detailed case history, cervical auscultation (listening to the swallow with a stetoscope) and observing a meal time. Following the clinical assessment we might refer for further investigations including videofluoroscopy swallow study.

We work closely with speech and language therapists in the community to ensure seamless care between services. We offer our videofluoroscopy swallow study service to paediatric teams from other hospital and community services.

Outpatient videofluoroscopy swallow study

Our team

Our team is managed by Analou Sugar and includes therapists across both hospital sites. Team members are registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
