Nephrology (children)

What we do

Our consultant-led nephrology clinic at West Middlesex University Hospital specialises in the diagnosis, management and follow-up of renal conditions in children and young people up to 16 years, including nephrotic syndrome, complicated UTIs, glomerulonephritis and antenatal structural abnormalities, and renal patients from Great Ormond Street who need require local follow-up for conditions such as haemolytic uremic syndrome. We work very closely with our urology colleagues, where our patients benefit from support by our consultants.

We run two consultant-led nephrology clinics per week. We are supported by tertiary nephrology centres, such as Great Ormond Street Hospital, for complex cases. We have a supervised registrar’s clinic once a week for training junior doctors. We have a visiting general paediatrician with a special interest in nephrology from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital once a month.

We also provide a blood monitoring (phlebotomy) service for special medication for children with complex nephrotic syndrome and provide consultant-led prescriptions.

We improve our service by listening to parents and doctors, and by carrying out audits and surveys.

Our team

Our team includes our lead consultants Dr Dipali Shah and Dr Monica Gupta alongside consultant urologist Ms Diane DeCaluwe, who also has weekly clinics at West Middlesex University Hospital.
