Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Midwives are required to undertake ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain their registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). This includes engaging in a range of learning activities such as attending workshops and conferences, completing further qualifications, and keeping up to date with current research, guidelines and evidence-based practice. CPD supports midwives in maintaining competence, improving patient care and progressing professionally.
Additional considerations
Financial support
Eligible midwifery students in England can access non-repayable funding of at least £5,000 per academic year through the NHS Learning Support Fund. Additional financial support may be available for students with dependants, those studying in areas of specialist need, or those incurring additional travel and accommodation costs.
Regulatory body
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is the professional regulator for midwifery in the UK. The NMC sets and upholds the standards of education, training and professional conduct to ensure that midwives deliver safe, effective and compassionate care.
