Rheumatology

Rheumatology outpatient physiotherapy is available to patients under the care of a rheumatology consultant for conditions such as:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Spondyloarthritis including ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Hypermobility

The physiotherapy team can offer a one-to-one assessment where your long term goals and expectations can be discussed. You may need a review from time to time if your condition changes and following a flare if you have inflammatory arthritis.

We will advise you on keeping active, maintaining good posture, joint care, work and lifestyle balance and specific self management of your condition.

Exercise is an important part of managing your condition as it can help to improve and maintain joint range of movement and muscle strength as well as cardiovascular fitness.

You can be referred by any member of the rheumatology team when you attend your routine outpatient appointment.

We offer a yearly review in the spondyloarthropathy (SpA) clinic for SpA patients—this involves a physical assessment with specific measurements and an opportunity to discuss and receive advice on exercise.
