Ear, nose and throat

What we do

The West Middlesex University Hospital Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) department provides excellent adult and paediatric elective and emergency services to the local population and beyond in diagnosing and managing diseases of the ear, nose, and throat.

Our service covers:

  • Common paediatric ENT diseases (hearing loss, sleep disturbance secondary to enlargement of the tonsils and adenoids, infections of the upper respiratory tract)
  • Otology—disorders of the ear and hearing
  • Head and neck neoplastic conditions (benign and malignant) managed in a weekly clinic, including thyroid and salivary gland disorders
  • Nose and sinus disorders including disorders of smell and taste, facial pains and allergy disorders
  • Facial plastics (nose-reshaping surgery)
  • Daily nurse-led ear care clinic including ear wax microsuction services
  • Audiology (more information) and hearing therapy

The ENT department is fully equipped with the latest technology both in our outpatient clinic and operating theatres. Each one of our daily clinics is equipped with fibre optic flexible and rigid naso-laryngoscopes, microscope rooms with on-screen imaging for patients’ convenience. Our patients will have access to the latest radiological technologies and state of art imaging suite.

We offer neck lumps clinic services, where patients can be seen in clinic and referred for an urgent ultrasound examination and an image-guided biopsy by expert radiologists. Our neighbours in the audiology and hearing therapy department provide us with full accessibility to a wide range of hearing and balance tests, in addition to therapeutic services for balance, hearing and tinnitus disorders.

Our excellent, patient-focused services extend beyond the boundaries of the hospital to reach out to our local community by running weekly ENT outreach clinics in Feltham, Teddington memorial and Chiswick health centres. In each one of these sites, we run full ENT services including hearing tests, nasal endoscopy and microscopic examination of ears. The clinics are run alongside GPs with special interest in ENT. As a department, we endeavour to provide our local GPs with the help and support they require, by arranging for regular teaching sessions and reviewing patients with interesting ENT findings.
