Labour ward

Our birth centres at Chelsea and Westminster and West Middlesex are in close proximity to our labour wards. This ensures that if your care needs to be transferred, this can be done quickly and safely.

Women using the labour ward will still have access to one-to-one midwifery care along with support from obstetric and anaesthetic colleagues and a 24-hour epidural service.

Labour ward rooms have facilities for enabling normal birth, including a birthing pool for women who may need extra support with their care but wish to use water in labour as well as mats, beanbags and birthing balls. Telemetry machines provide wireless and waterproof monitoring to record your baby’s heartrate continuously, if required, and to help you maintain mobility in labour while keeping your baby.
