What do we do

The podiatry department specialises in foot and ankle surgery, lower limb sports injuries and the management of the at-risk diabetic foot. By providing this specialist service we treat common and complex problems that can affect the lower limbs. Our excellent hospital diagnostic facilities, clinical skills and experience as a team enables us to diagnose and educate our patients, enabling them to be involved in decisions about their care, facilitating their treatment and improving outcomes.

Most foot and ankle operations are carried out on as day cases, either under local, regional or general anaesthetic. 

Our services (adult and children)

• First ray surgery—bunions (hallux valgus) and arthritis of the big toe (hallux limitus)
• Metatarsalgia—neuroma, dislocated joints and toe deformities
• Midfoot—arthritis and malalignment
• Hindfoot—flat foot, high-arched foot (cavus foot)
• Ankle instability and arthritis
• Soft tissues—tendon ruptures, excision of soft tissue masses
• Diabetic foot with limb salvage surgery, surgical management of infection and deformity (Charcot foot)
• Sports injuries relating to poor foot function 

Our team

The team comprises two consultants, Prof Mark Tagoe and Ms Sally Feeney, a podiatric registrar, a podiatric surgical trainee and a podiatric intern. The service is based in Outpatients 3, 1st Floor at West Middlesex University Hospital.
