Car Parking

We operate two parking systems:

  • Pay on foot: The main car park at the front right of the hospital is a ticketless  ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) barrier system. Cameras register the number plate of the car before entry. Before leaving the hospital, you will need to enter your  license plate number into one of the pay machines which are located in the entrance of the main building and pay the requested fee. Once the car parking charge for the registered number plate has been paid, the camera at the barrier will automatically recognise the number plate of the car and open the barrier accordingly.

  • Pay and display: Pay and display spaces are sign-posted around the hospital. A valid ticket must be clearly displayed at all times.

Please make sure that you do not park in any of the restricted areas or spaces reserved for staff.

Car parking charges

The minimum charge of £2.00 for up to 1 hour. The Trust cannot accept liability for loss or damage caused to vehicles or contents while parked within the car park.

  • 2–3 hours—£5.00
  • 3–4 hours—£6.00
  • 4–5 hours—£7.00
  • 5–8 hours—£7.00
  • 8–12 hours—£9.00
  • 12–24 hours—£12.50

Disabled drivers

There are 32 disabled car parking bays across all site parking facilities, with 20 bays being in the main car park, close to the main entrance. Please note that disabled blue badge parking is free of charge at West Mid but you must display a valid blue badge permit to park in the designated disabled bays.

The car park system is a ticketless numberplate recognition system. This means that the entry barrier will lift once it has recorded your number plate. The process for blue badge holders is as follows:

  • Enter the car park and park your vehicle in a disabled space
  • Place your disabled blue badge permit in the windscreen of your vehicle
  • Once you have completed your visit, return to your vehicle and make your way to the exit barrier
  • At the exit barrier press the help button to call the service desk
  • Once the service desk operator answers, make it known to the operator that you are a blue badge holder
  • The service desk operator will instruct you to hold up your blue badge to the camera located at the exit barrier
  • Once the operator has validated your blue badge, the exit barrier will be lifted for you so you can exit the car park
  • If you require assistance when you arrive, please ask security, located behind the main reception desk

Please note: This is a temporary process for blue badge holders. The Estates team are developing a process where blue badge holders can apply for parking at the West Mid site and qualified users will be added to the car park system, so barriers will automatically open on approach. Look out for further details.

Drop-off point

There is a drop off point directly in front of the main hospital building. Drivers may drop off elderly and disabled patients outside the main entrance however parking in this area is not permitted.

    Motorbike

Motorbikes and scooters can park for free at the hospital—however, please be considerate about where you park and avoid causing an obstruction.

    Bicycle

There are a number of  bike racks located to the front and sides of the main hospital building—please do not lock your bicycle to railings or fences near entrances as they may block access.
