Research
Research is essential to improving patient care. New treatments, technologies, diagnostics and care approaches must be carefully tested to ensure they are safe, effective and deliver real benefits for patients.
The Trust delivers a diverse portfolio of research studies across a wide range of clinical specialties, working with patients, universities, industry partners and healthcare organisations to advance knowledge and improve outcomes.
The Research and Development Department provides the leadership, governance and infrastructure that supports research across the Trust. We help researchers deliver high-quality studies and enable patients and the public to participate in research that may shape the future of healthcare.
Research Strategy 2026–2031
Research is a core part of our ambition to deliver outstanding care. Our Research Strategy 2026–2031 sets out how we will expand research opportunities for patients and staff, strengthen partnerships, increase participation across our communities and embed research more deeply within everyday clinical practice.
The strategy also outlines our vision for supporting innovation, developing our research workforce and ensuring that more people can benefit from research, regardless of where they receive care.
