Induction of Labour (IOL)

Induction of Labour means starting or strengthening your labour artificially. It may be recommended to you for a number of reasons, for the safety of both you and/or your baby.

Induction of labour may not be what you had planned at the beginning of your pregnancy, and you may be keen to learn more about the reasons and also the processes involved in this kind of birth, as well as how to optimise the experience for yourself.

The basics of induction are covered in the full set of 5 antenatal classes (specifically in Class 3), but we also run a specialist workshop every Thursday morning for those women who would like to go into this topic in more detail.

This workshop, which is recommended for all women planning a vaginal birth, is facilitated by a Senior Midwife and our Parentcraft Co-ordinator and can be booked here:

We would suggest you plan to come to this workshop at around 36 weeks of pregnancy.
