Ophthalmology (children)

What we do

Children’s Ophthalmology is a consultant-led service specialising in the assessment and management of eye disease and disorders of visual development in children.

Supported by highly skilled orthoptists who specialise in the assessment of young children’s eyesight and a paediatric optometrist, our consultant leads the service in treating children with congenital eye and vision problems, eyelid and lacrimal (tears) conditions, cataracts and eye disease, including problems associated with diabetes and allergy. The care of children with squint and amblyopia (lazy eye) is a particular area of expertise and our consultant also provides screening for retinal problems in premature babies.

Our outpatient clinics treat a variety of children’s eye problems, including prescription of glasses, correction of squint and other surgical procedures as day case surgery.

Our team

The team consists of consultants Ms Luna Dhir and Ms Aeesha Malik, and Head Orthoptist Shabnam Khan.
