Exercise Classes
Exercise classes are an excellent way to progress your rehabilitation, as they provide an opportunity to exercise in a controlled environment under the supervision of our therapy team. All classes are delivered by at least one physiotherapist, often with support from a therapy assistant.
Following an assessment with your physiotherapist, you may decide that an exercise class is suitable for you. Please see below for information on the types of classes we offer, what to expect and our current timetable.
Types of classes
- ESCAPE-pain class – a structured five-week cohort of circuit exercise and information sessions for patients with osteoarthritis of the knee, hip or back.
- Introduction to Exercise class – a six-week cohort class introducing the concept of whole-body exercise, appropriate at home or in the gym, for those needing assistance and supervision before getting started on their own.
- Knee Replacement class – up to six sessions of supervised exercise for patients with recent partial or total knee replacement surgery. This is useful for those after the immediate post-operative stage who are working to improve strength and mobility.
- ACL Rehabilitation class – for patients who have had an ACL injury and are waiting to have surgery, or who are having non-operative treatment. This provides a check-in point to assess progress, review rehabilitation programmes and progress towards strength and control improvement.
- Shoulder Rehabilitation class (Foundations and Conditioning)
Foundations: to help with stiffness following shoulder injuries or surgery.
Conditioning: developing strength and control for mobile shoulders.
The department no longer has a hydrotherapy pool.
Joining an exercise class
- You must be referred into a class by a member of our team, after which our admin team will book your first class.
- Arrive as usual, check in and wait in the waiting room so you are ready to join your class at the scheduled time.
- Wear appropriate clothing to exercise in, including closed shoes.
- The gym has a water fountain and cups, but feel free to bring your own water bottle.
