Mencap Richmond join learning disability nurses training at West Mid

20 June 2025

The Trust hosted a powerful training session with Mencap Richmond, where nurses heard directly from people with learning disabilities about their experiences of care.

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust recently welcomed Mencap Richmond, a charity supporting people with learning disabilities, for a dedicated training session at West Middlesex University Hospital. The session was led by Kathryn Mangold, the Trust’s Lead Nurse for Learning Disability, and attended by more than 20 nurses.

Designed to deepen understanding and promote more inclusive, compassionate care, the session offered valuable learning for clinical staff. A highlight of the afternoon was hearing directly from five Mencap service users, who generously shared their personal experiences of receiving care. Their reflections provided powerful insight into what works well – and where improvements can be made – when supporting patients with additional needs.

Sessions like this are vital to the Trust’s commitment to being a learning organisation, continuously listening to patients and adapting services to meet their needs with dignity and respect. Thank you to Mencap Richmond for supporting this training session.
