30th Magill Symposium: A 360° Approach to Acute Lung Injury in Critical and Perioperative Care:

04 December 2025

Our Trust, in partnership with Imperial College London, hosted the 30th Magill Symposium on 26 November, celebrating a key milestone in anaesthesia and critical care.

The 30th Magill Symposium, held on 26 November, celebrated three decades of innovation in anaesthesia and critical care, honoured by the presence of the event's founder, Dr Neil Soni.

The day began with an inspiring pre-symposium session led by Mike Wright (CW+), showcasing cutting-edge innovations in health and care technology.

The scientific programme centred on precision medicine, challenging traditional diagnoses and exploring biological phenotypes for personalised therapies. Highlights included discussions on ventilator-induced lung injury, postoperative complications, and paediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome, plus interactive workshops on airway management, lung ultrasound, and HoloLens technology.

The academic day culminated in a prestigious keynote by Professor Carolyn Calfee, titled "Unravelling the Science of Acute Lung Injury and What Next," offering a forward-looking perspective on the field.

The symposium concluded with a celebratory debrief over dinner. Dr Vizcaychipi and Dr Haire and the faculty formally welcomed Professor Anthony Gordon to the Magill team to work together and shape the next 30 years of the event. The gathering also saw Lesley Watts, Chief Executive and Tim Orchard, Group Chief Executive of the North West London Acute Provider Group join the team, welcoming the ambitious vision for the symposium's future.

Thank  you to all delegated who joined in presence or virtually, and made this day such a success.
