Celebrating International Day of the Midwife 2025
05 May 2025
The Trust marked International Day of the Midwife with a national NMC film featuring our staff and a heartfelt tribute recognising the vital role midwives play every day and in every crisis.
This year’s theme is Midwives: Critical in every crisis which perfectly reflects the strength, dedication, and compassion of all our midwives – essential for every birth and critical in every crisis.
A message from Victoria Cochrane MBE, Director of Midwifery for International Day of the Midwife:
"I want to thank each and every one of our 597 midwives working across both sites and in the community. This year’s theme Critical in every crisis perfectly reflects the strength, dedication, and compassion of all our midwives. Whether supporting families during emergencies or providing everyday care and reassurance, you are there—calm, capable, and deeply committed. Your work has earned national recognition, from our top-three ranking in London for maternity experience, to best practice praise in recent CQC best practice reports.
Thanks to your efforts, more than 9,500 babies are born safely in our Trust each year, and families feel supported, respected, and truly cared for. Thank you for everything you do. You are essential—not just in crisis, but always."
Our staff featured in a national film led by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) to showcase the work of our midwifery colleagues on International Day of the Midwife.
The film is a heartfelt thank you to all our midwives, bringing to life some of the inspiring stories of our professionals and highlighting the impact our midwives make every day. Thank you to everyone who supported with the film, and to all our midwives - your commitment, resilience, and exceptional care are at the core of our communities.
