Why bowel preparation is important

Follow your bowel preparation instructions carefully to ensure your colon is as clean as possible for your procedure.

If the bowel preparation is only fair or poor, material may remain in the colon. This can make it more difficult for your doctor to identify abnormal growths.

Abnormal growths can include:

  • flat lesions
  • depressed lesions
  • polyps
  • elevated lesions
