Working together to support children with asthma during Ask About Asthma 2026

07 September 2026

Running from 7 to 11 September, the Ask About Asthma campaign helps children, young people and families take steps to manage asthma.

Every September, children need more urgent care for asthma as they return to school after summer. To help families stay well and prevent asthma attacks, West London Children's Healthcare is supporting #AskAboutAsthma2026.

West London Children’s Healthcare brings together services for children and young people at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust to improve quality, experience and outcomes across all aspects of child health.

Running from 7 to 11 September, the campaign helps children, young people and families take steps to manage asthma.

The campaign focuses on four 'asks’ to reduce symptoms and prevent asthma attacks:

  • Make sure every child has an asthma action plan
  • Make sure children and families know how to use their inhaler correctly
  • Attend an annual asthma review and a review after every asthma attack
  • Consider air pollution and its impact on lung health

Staff are encouraged to have these conversations with families to reduce hospital admissions.

A partnership approach to children's health

West London Children's Healthcare brings together children's services from across west London. The partnership cares for more than 150,000 children and young people each year.

By working together across hospitals and community services, families get more consistent support closer to home.

This joined-up approach is especially important for children living with asthma.

One way this is achieved is with the Asthma and Wheeze Team. This community-based team help families build confidence in managing symptoms at home. They have seen benefits to this approach with less hospital admissions.

Supporting families to ask about asthma

Asthma is one of the most common long-term health conditions in children. It can affect school, sleep, exercise and everyday life.

#AskAboutAsthma encourages everyone involved in a child's care to have conversations about asthma and make sure support is in place.

Through strong partnership working, teams continue to help families manage asthma and live healthier lives.
