UK-first conscious sedation clinic for hysteroscopy featured on BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour

Irina Stankeviciute, Clinical Hysteroscopist Nurse Specialist, featured on BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour this morning to discuss Chelsea and Westminster Hospital's pioneering conscious sedation service for gynaecological procedures, including hysteroscopy (a minimally invasive procedure used to examine and treat the inside of the womb (uterus).

As the only hospital in the UK currently offering this approach, the service is giving women greater comfort, choice and control. Developed by Irina and Consultant Mr Richard Flint, more than 300 patients have opted for conscious sedation during their hysteroscopy, a pain relief method that is widely used in other areas of medicine, which has safely resulted in reduced pain, anxiety and better patient experience outcomes.

The team hope to publish their results later this year to lead the way in nationwide change and standardisation of care in gynaecology.
