HIV Peer Support Training

presented by Chelsea and Westminster HIV Clinics and Terrence Higgins Trust

We are looking to develop in-house peer support across the Kobler, Nkosi Johnson and 56 Dean Street clinics. The peer support is to help those who are newly diagnosed and/or may be in need of extra support.

We are looking for enthusiastic, committed volunteers who are living with HIV to become peer supporters. You will be required to attend a training and development programme to enable you to fully assist others who are living with HIV attending our clinics.

The training will cover:

  • Overview of HIV treatments and an HIV update
  • Exploring your own relationship with HIV and health
  • Developing your listening skills
  • Developing skills to enhance health and wellbeing
  • Working with positive thinking and self-management
  • Discussing issues around sex and relationships

Venue

All sessions will take place in the Mansfield Conference Room, 4th Floor, St Stephen’s Centre—lunch and refreshments will be provided

Dates

Exact dates will be confirmed but will include one evening and two days

Facilitators

The course will be jointly facilitated by staff from Chelsea and Westminster HIV clinics and the HIV Health Support Service at Terrence Higgins Trust
