Memory clinic (CW)

We would like to inform you about what we expect from you and also what you should expect to happen on the day of your clinic appointment with us.

Before your appointment

Please let us know if you need an interpreter and/or transport to be arranged for you. A volunteer will call you one week and one day before your clinic appointment.

On the day of your appointment

  • Bring all the medications or a list of medications you take
  • Bring your glasses and hearing aid if you use them
  • Come accompanied with your carer or a family member who is close to you
  • When you arrive we will check your blood pressure and carry out a 10–15 minute memory screening test
  • Your first appointment with the doctor will take 40–50 minutes, and any follow-up appointments will usually take 20–30 minutes
  • Sometimes we will ask you to have a blood test and electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • If you haven't had a recent CT or MRI scan of your head, your doctor will ask you to have one before your next appointment
  • If required, you may be seen by the neuropsychologist for further assessment
  • Your follow-up appointment will be within the next 3 months to discuss your diagnosis and treatment

Please note: Your overall time at the hospital will be longer than noted above if we need to carry out further tests during your visit.
