Celebrating International Day of the Midwife

05 May 2023

We’re delighted to be marking International Day of the Midwife—a day to recognise and celebrate the work of midwives, student midwives and maternity support workers around the world.

We’re delighted to be marking International Day of the Midwife—a day to recognise and celebrate the work of midwives, student midwives and maternity support workers around the world.

As one of the largest maternity services in London, we support the births of more than 11,000 babies annually. In recent years, midwives, student midwives and maternity support workers have gone above and beyond in extraordinary circumstances to provide the best possible care to babies, birthing women, birthing people and their families, working tirelessly each and every day. We are so proud of the contribution they make to our Trust and to our community.

Activities are taking place locally across our hospitals to thank colleagues for their dedication, with celebrations continuing next week for International Nurses Day.

As part of International Day of the Midwife, we are also launching a brand new maternity recruitment website, which provides a range of information about our Trust, the benefits of working for us and the opportunities available for qualified midwives and neonatal healthcare specialists. The website will support staff who want to develop their maternity careers in a Trust with excellent facilities, training and development.

Vicki Cochrane MBE, Director of Midwifery at the Trust, said: “I am incredibly proud our maternity teams. They make a huge difference to the experience of women and families during one of the most important and special times in their lives. On behalf of our staff and the communities we serve, a huge thank you to our midwives, student midwives and support workers for your tireless work and dedication.

“Our trust is a fantastic place to develop your career in midwifery, with world-class facilities and training in our two hospitals in North West London. We’re currently recruiting qualified midwives and neonatal nurses, so visit our new recruitment website to find out what makes our Trust a great place to work.”
