Important message for patients and visitors—Fulham Road closed Sunday 14 August

05 August 2011

The London–Surrey Cycle Classic will be taking place on Sunday 14 August and will pass Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on both the outward and homeward bound legs.

The London–Surrey Cycle Classic will be taking place on Sunday 14 August and will pass Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on both the outward and homeward bound legs.

As a result, Fulham Road will be closed on Sunday 14 August from 4am–3pm.

While the road closures are in place, access to the hospital building will be affected and there is likely to be heavy traffic congestion in the surrounding area.

The footpaths around the hospital are also likely to be congested with spectators and Fulham Road will be heavily marshalled with designated crossing points.

Visitors are strongly advised to avoid visiting the hospital during this time.

Public transport

A number of bus diversions will be in place, including the 14, 414 and 211 buses which passes the hospital, however night buses will continue to run along Fulham Road until 7am.

If you are travelling by Tube, please note that the hospital will only be easily accessible via stations located on the south side of Fulham Road (eg Sloane Square station). Tubes are expected to be very busy and some stations may shut if they become too congested.

There are also planned engineering works which will affect the following lines:

  • Circle—planned closure of the full line
  • District—suspended between Edgware Road and Earls Court
  • Hammersmith and City—no service between Baker Street and Hammersmith
  • Northern—no service between Camden Town and Kennington via Bank and no stopping at Tottenham Court Road
  • There will also be no service on London Overground between Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction—this includes Imperial Wharf and West Brompton stations, which will be closed

Access to the hospital car park

While the road closures are in place, access to the hospital car park will be restricted.

Visitors requiring access will need to make arrangements beforehand.

Please speak to the Nurse or Midwife in charge of the ward the day before and provide them with your car details. You will not be allowed access if you haven't provided this information.

Vehicle access to the hospital car park will only be available via Redcliffe Gardens (this is a one-way street) - please see the map overleaf. Please be aware that this route will be completely closed from 8–9:30am and 10:40–11:50am.

Pedestrian access to the hospital building

There will be barriers in place along Fulham Road, with limited pedestrian crossover points. Please be aware that you will not be able to cross Fulham Road while the cyclists are passing the crossover points.

Further information about road closures, bus diversions and maps of affected areas can be found on the Transport for London website.
