Hand therapist wins prestigious national award

Sarah Mee, Consultant Hand Therapist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, has been named Hand Therapist of the Year 2010 by the British Association of Hand Therapists (BAHT).

Sarah Mee, Consultant Hand Therapist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, has been named Hand Therapist of the Year 2010 by the British Association of Hand Therapists (BAHT).

Sarah won the award in recognition of her achievements including becoming the first hand therapist consultant and for the teaching she does in the UK and abroad.

The Executive Committee of BAHT said Sarah was an inspiration to all their members of what can be achieved by hand therapists and for her dedication to providing treatment of the highest standard.

Also congratulations to Dr Jeremy Lewis, Consultant Physiotherapist, who was nominated for the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Award for Excellence in learning, teaching and development.

Through his leadership the Therapy Department at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital has developed an internationally recognised research programme, currently with 25 research projects.

Jeremy said: “This nomination demonstrates the value of developing a strong research and evidence-based culture to continually improve the care we offer patients. We are delighted to have been nominated.”

Ann Green, chair of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, said: “This award recognises physiotherapists who have shown excellence through innovation to achieve better outcomes for patients. Jeremy’s work clearly meets that criteria and his nomination is well-deserved.”
