Choose Chelsea and Westminster

The slogan for this year’s hospital Open Day was ‘Choose Chelsea and Westminster’ because this was an ideal opportunity to raise public awareness of their right to choose a hospital for their treatment – and why they should choose us.

Direct Booking on the national Choose and Book system is now up and running at Chelsea and Westminster which means that GPs can now book a patient into an outpatient appointment at our hospital from their GP practice.

Orthopaedic Surgeon Mr Warwick Radford, who saw our first Direct Booking patient at an outpatient consultation in March, says: “The big advantage of Direct Booking is that patients have a confirmed date and time for their clinic appointment when they leave their GP surgery.

“There is no need for patients to phone the Trust to confirm those details although, if a patient wishes to leave the GP surgery before deciding where and when they wish to be seen, they can book their appointment by phone or via the internet.”

Direct Booking was piloted initially in Orthopaedics and will be rolled out to all specialties in the Trust – as Trust News went to press, 20 orthopaedics patients had directly booked their appointment at Chelsea and Westminster.

This rollout plan was agreed with directorates to ensure that it follows logical clinical pathways to maximise benefits for patients, GPs and hospital clinicians.

A benefit of our Foundation Trust status is that the national Choose and Book system allows us to treat any patient who chooses to be cared for at Chelsea and Westminster, irrespective of whether or not they live in our local area.

This means that patients can choose Chelsea and Westminster, wherever they live in the country.
