New provisions incorporated into the Disability Discrimination Act 2005 came into effect on Monday December 4 2006.

The Act introduces a duty for all public authorities to actively promote equality of opportunity for disabled people and a specific duty to produce a Disability Equality Scheme (DES).

Chelsea and Westminster's DES is now available on the Trust website - it will be considered for approval by the Trust's Board of Directors on Thursday December 7 2006 - but the process of developing our DES in consultation with staff, patients and community groups does not finish with this publication.

We are committed to maintain active consultation to ensure that the DES, and in particular our Action Plan, are subject to regular review and update.
