Dentistry (children)

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is the largest provider of children’s dental care in North West London, offering a full diagnostic and treatment service for all aspects of dental health. We care for children who have suffered a dental injury, who have dental disease or genetic conditions affecting the teeth.

A specialist children’s nurse will carry out a full pre-operative assessment with support from the play specialist team to provide distraction and ease anxiety. Children who require a general anaesthetic, due to anxiety or behavioural problems, will be admitted as a day case so they can return home as soon as possible.

We also work together with other teams in the hospital—for example, if your child is already having a general anaesthetic for another procedure—we will usually perform their dental procedure at the same time so that your child will not require two separate general anaesthetics.

All new patients are assessed by a Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry who will determine whether your child is best treated using local anaesthetic, inhalation sedation (‘happy air’), or general anaesthetic.

We particularly specialise in treating children with existing health problems, as well as those with special needs or dental injuries.
