Dr Shah is involved in the development of bronchoscopic techniques for lung cancer detection and management. He leads the Bronchoscopy Service for the Royal Brompton Hospital and is particularly involved in interventional bronchoscopy. This ranges from valves or umbrellas to achieve bronchoscopic lung volume reduction in patients with heterogenous emphysema, through to the role of stents to create collateral airways in homogenous emphysema. He is also involved in the treatment of asthma with bronchial thermoplasty. Dr Shah runs an annual interventional bronchoscopy course and is committed to training other consultants and senior trainees in the new techniques. He was the sectional editor of the thoracic section of Gray’s Anatomy (39th edition) and has also contributed to other leading reference medical textbooks such as the Oxford Textbook of Medicine and Respiratory Medicine.
