Clinical Research Facility

The Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at St Stephen’s Centre is managed by Chelsea and Westminster NHS foundation Trust and provides the staff and facilities that enable Trust and university researchers to run high-quality clinical trials.

Our facilities are comfortable, safe and secure and allow the recruitment and monitoring of patients and volunteers within the local and national regulatory frameworks, including departmental standard operating procedures, Trust policies and Good Clinical Practice.

We are experienced in supporting and facilitating the research work of new and established investigators and are keen to build on collaborations with the wider research delivery workforce across the Trust.

Facilities

The CRF has 12 dedicated treatment beds, an on-site laboratory, storage facilities, a reception and a waiting room. Additionally, we have a large meeting room and space to accommodate study monitors.

The clinical research facility is capable of delivering studies at any phase, including ‘first in man’ studies. Due to our close proximity to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, it has unique access to all hospital services including pharmacy, radiology, resuscitation team etc.

Workforce

The research delivery team is made up of a dedicated, highly trained workforce that includes a consultant, specialist doctors, senior nurse managers, research nurses, clinical trial assistants, laboratory technicians and a receptionist. The CRF also has access to the wider research workforce when required.

Specialist areas

The Clinical Research Facility has a proven track record of delivering sponsored and hosted studies in a range of clinical specialties – our main activity currently being within infectious diseases, including HIV, GUM and Coronavirus Vaccines. We also support the delivery of research within Paediatrics, Hepatology and are looking at opening studies in Gastroenterology and Respiratory medicine.
