The Maternity Unit at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is delighted to announce that they have passed and received their UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative Stage One Assessment. Stage One of the Baby Friendly assessment procedure is designed to ensure that the necessary policies, guidelines and information are in place to allow health-care providers to implement the Baby Friendly standards effectively.

“Receiving our Stage One Assessment reinforces that the maternity unit at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is committed in providing an evidence based, woman-centred approach to care,” says Giuseppe Labriola, Specialist Midwife Infant Feeding Co-ordinator.

The Baby Friendly Initiative is a worldwide programme developed by UNICEF which works with the healthcare system to ensure a high standard of care for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers and babies. The Baby Friendly Initiative provides support for health-care facilities that are seeking to implement best practice, and offers an assessment and accreditation process that recognises these facilities that have achieved these required standards.
