Urology
The Urological Unit offers a full range of assessment, treatment and follow-up for a wide range of urological disorders and procedures.
There are 2 consultant urologists, Mr Dinneen and Mr Khoubehi, as well a medical oncologist, Dr Brock.
Mr Dinneen and Mr Khoubehi have extensive general urological experience coupled with strong interests in several specialist fields. They deal with lower urinary tract symptoms (water-work trouble), benign prostate conditions, stone disease of the urinary tract, haematuria (blood in the urine), raised PSA, infections of the bladder and kidneys, conditions affecting the scrotum and testis, and benign conditions of the penis. The unit also offers a one-stop haematuria clinic and soon will be offering one-stop PSA clinic.
Mr Dinneen sub-specialises in treatment of penile cancer and dealing with complex kidney stones.
Mr Khoubehi sub-specialises in cancers of the urinary tract including renal tumours (offering laparoscopic surgery), bladder tumours including cystectomy (removal of bladder) and urinary diversion including neo-bladder and cancer of the prostate, offering both open and robotic surgery for prostate cancer.
The Urology team also has two Specialist Nurses who run nurse-led clinics for a variety of conditions including haematuria, erectile dysfunction and urodynamics as well as other general urology based clinics.
A multi-disciplinary approach is adopted in all areas of urology and all specialties are supported by physicians, endoscopy, intensive care, stoma therapy, dieticians and physiotherapists.
The service provides 24-hour support to the A&E Department and patients can be referred directly to an appropriate outpatient clinic if necessary.
The one-stop rapid diagnostic clinics use the latest technology and have dedicated nursing provision.
