Phlebotomy services

What we do

Our phlebotomy services at both hospitals use blood tests to assess the general health of our patients, confirm the presence of a bacterial or viral infection, see how well organs are functioning and to screen for genetic conditions. You can read more about the most common types of blood testing here. We provide an outpatients services for patients referred to us by their GPs and also within our hospital clinics.

Your appointment

When coming to the department for a blood test please:

  • Ensure that you bring your blood test request form with you
  • Wear clothing that gives easy access to your arm (eg short sleeves or with sleeves that can be rolled up)

The majority of blood tests do not require you to take any special actions before attending for the test. If your doctor has requested a specific test that requires you to do certain things before coming for your appointment (eg not to eat anything for a certain number of hours), the doctor will inform you when he/she gives you the blood test request form and he/she will explain what you need to do before attending for your blood test.

Opening hours

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital

Our walk-in service is open Mon–Fri, 8am–5pm—we aim to provide an average waiting time of 15 minutes. Due to busy clinics in the morning, we advise patients to attend in the afternoons when the waiting times are usually shorter as we do not operate an appointment system except for Glucose Tolerance Tests (GTTs).
