Orthopaedics (children)

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is a regional centre for orthopaedics in north west London and is home to the second largest Ponseti clinic in the country which attracts patients from all over the UK and internationally.

The Ponseti method is a minimally invasive alternative to surgical correction of club foot, which uses plaster casts and a small incision of the Achilles tendon under local anaesthetic and special splints worn at night to correct the foot. Children can begin treatment from two weeks of age and the method produces near-normal feet with no pain and no need for surgery in the future.

Our team cares for children with musculosketal disorders and provides services including:

  • Weekly Ponseti club foot clinic
  • Twice-weekly fracture clinics
  • Gait clinic
  • Neurological clinic for advice and monitoring of orthopaedic problems in children with cerebral palsy and spina bifida
  • Screening for neonatal hip dislocation

Consultants and key staff

  • Mr Stuart Evans, Consultant
  • Ms Alison Hulme, Consultant
  • Susan Hay, Paediatric Physiotherapy Lead
