Infectious diseases (children)

What we do

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital’s infectious diseases service provides follow up care for children exposed to HIV and hepatitis C before or during birth.

Our service works closely with Chelsea and Westminster’s adult HIV & Sexual Health and Maternity services to provide support for babies born to HIV and Hepatitis C positive mothers. Our family-centred model enables parents to access their own care during the follow-up of their babies.

We provide HIV and hepatitis testing and care for children and families following blood borne virus exposure. We also support children of parents newly diagnosed with HIV in line with national guidance (CHIVA).

Our team

The team is led by Paula Seery, Clinical Nurse Specialist, supported by senior members of the paediatric medical team from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and St Mary's Hospital in Paddington.
