Diabetes (children)

With close links with the endocrine service, our diabetes service specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of children with diabetes.

We have special clinics for cystic fibrosis-related diabetes and transition clinics for 16 to 19 year olds, as well as dedicated afternoon clinics for adolescents.

The diabetes team can assess whether patients are suitable to transfer to insulin pump therapy and the diabetes specialist nurse provides ongoing individual support for this treatment. This is a popular service and around one in 10 of our patients is on insulin pump therapy, which is well above the national average.

A consultant or specialist nurse led telephone advisory service is also available for families of children with diabetes.
