We also unveiled a special exhibition in memory of the 390 men from Isleworth who served in World War One. Open Day 2018—celebrating NHS70

This year we celebrated the proud 70-year history of the NHS with mini open days at West Mid and Chelsea on 5 July. There were many events taking place in hospitals like ours and NHS services across the country and we thank everyone who joined us.

We treated staff and supporters to tea and cake for the Big 7-Tea, and there were stands to promote innovation, improvement, volunteering and recruitment, as well as special appearances from some of our favourite visitors—our therapy dogs.

NHS70 isn’t the only celebration at our Trust—Chelsea and Westminster Hospital turned 25 in May, Kobler Clinic turned 30 in September, and in November we celebrated the 15th anniversary of the redevelopment of West Middlesex University Hospital—find out more!

Open Day 2017

West Middlesex University Hospital

West Middlesex University Hospital’s 5th annual open day was our busiest to date—with many hundreds of patients and members of the public coming down to take a peek at the fantastic work taking place across our hospital and how proud we are to care for all of our patients. Along with launching the Suns and Stars Fundraising Appeal with our charity CW+ to transform our children’s wards into a bright, fun and welcoming environment for our youngest patients and their families, we also recruited 14 nurses and recruited 67 new members to our Council of Governors. We raised more than £1,000 on the day to support the redevelopment of our children's services—thank you to all who donated!

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital

More than 2,000 people came to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital’s Open Day—our annual event to help patients and members of the public find out more about how we are proud to care for the 600,000 patients we see each year at our hospital. We recruited 15 new nurses on the day and also signed up 100 people to apply for future job opportunities at our Trust.

Open Day 2016

West Middlesex University Hospital

Our fourth annual open day proved to be another great success. It was great to see so many people from our local community as well as from further afield come and find out more about the great work that goes on in our hospital. There really was something for everyone to enjoy including some fantastic live entertainment, behind the scenes tours, food and drink and stalls showcasing the range of services we provide as well as from our healthcare colleagues. A particular focus this year was recruitment and to help attract people to come and work in our friendly and supportive organisation. We successfully recruited a number of new nurses on the day which is great news for us and our community.

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital

More than 1,600 members of the public joined our staff in celebrating what’s great about Chelsea and Westminster Hospital at Open Day on 25 June. The theme for our Open Day this year was ‘Recruitment’ and on the day we managed to employ 18 new band 5 nurses to join our team. Thanks to all staff, volunteers and our charities for their efforts in making this year’s event such a great success.

Open Day 2015

West Mid

The 3rd annual West Middlesex University Hospital Open Day took place on 12 September—our full range of services was represented, with behind the scenes tours, health checks, careers advice, live entertainment, food and drink tasting plus lots more.

Chelsea and Westminster

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital’s annual Open Day was on Saturday 9 May between 11am and 3pm at the main hospital site, 369 Fulham Road. The event featured all the popular stands and behind-the-scenes tours from previous years. The theme of this year’s event was “Safe”—a Trust value which is more relevant than ever following the CQC inspection.

As always there was live music to keep visitors entertained. This year, a steel band kicked off the event! New for 2015, and with our proposed merger in mind, were stands which spelled out the histories of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital.

Also on offer were stands covering a range of our services including learning disabilities, maternity, pharmacy, end of life care and the popular ‘Health care MOTs’. Our charities had their own stands where visitors were able to find out about the latest fundraising campaigns and the cutting edge equipment for which they raise money.

The Teddy Bear Hospital was back once again and there were many other fun and educational activities for children and families to enjoy.

Our Foundation Trust Governors were available throughout the day in the Information Zone to speak to members about the hospital and the work they do representing patients and our local community.

Absolutely fabulous Open Day 2014

This year's Open Day on Saturday 14 June had a very special guest, Joanna Lumley, who helped bring in crowds of more than 2,000 people on the day.

The Open Day, the seventh annual event held at the main hospital site, provides an opportunity for local people to visit the hospital, hear more about services and meet with staff who deliver healthcare to patients every day. This year's event also celebrated the hospital's 21st birthday.

The theme of this year's event was 'Keeping you well'. We will be offering advice to visitors on how they can keep themselves healthy and therefore out of hospital. We provided health MOTs where visitors can get a quick and easy check-up and advice on how to lead a healthy lifestyle, with everything from help to stop smoking to tips on eating well.

One of the most popular parts of the day is the Teddy Bear Hospital where children can bring their favourite toy in for a health check-up from our team of Junior Doctors. Many fun and educational activities for children and families were enjoyed in the new children's outpatients setting on the first floor.

Open Day 2013

Nearly 2,100 people came and enjoyed Chelsea and Westminster's Open Day 2013, which marked 20 years since the hospital building was officially opened by HM The Queen.

Film, theatre and television actress Maureen Lipman CBE officially opened the event and took part in an interview on Hospital Radio for those patients that couldn't be involved in the festivities on the day.

Particular highlights included:

  • tours of Pluto, our brand new £1 million robot for keyhole surgery on babies and children
  • the ever popular teddy bear hospital
  • on the spot health tests
  • career zone for budding NHS workers
