Update on antenatal class provision

During the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no face-to-face antenatal education or breastfeeding classes available at either Chelsea and Westminster Hospital or West Middlesex University Hospital. We want to ensure that you still have the information you require—therefore, we have put together a virtual information package for you to access at this time.

Below are links to a series of short videos which are designed to give you the same information you would normally get in the hospital Birth Preparation (or Antenatal) classes. They are supported by accompanying PowerPoint presentations and also a series of Padlets, which are collections of useful resources around late pregnancy, labour, birth and beyond.

Ask the Teacher and antenatal breastfeeding sessions on Zoom

We hope you will find these videos useful and that they will give you all the information you need to prepare for your birth. However, if you have any further questions once you have viewed these, you can book into a virtual Q&A session with our parentcraft coordinator. These will run during the day and are only open to you if you are booked at either Chelsea and Westminster or West Middlesex hospitals. The workshops are limited to 25 people per session and require you to have the free Zoom app on your mobile phone, tablet or PC. The sessions will all give the same general information, but will also focus on specific themed topics each week, as follows:

  • 29 June, 10:30am and 2pm: Introduction to labour and birth (including a photo tour of the hospital)
  • 06 Jul, 10:30am and 2pm: Natural forms of pain relief (TENS, water, breathing techniques and hypnobirthing)
  • 13 Jul, 2pm: Other forms of pain relief (gas and air, pethidine, epidural) and induction of labour
  • 20 Jul, 10:30am and 2pm: Caesarean birth and other interventions
  • 27 Jul, 10:30am and 2pm: Basic babycare (including safe sleep, bathing, nappy changing, but not breastfeeding)

In addition, we will be running refresher sessions on Zoom (if this is not your first baby) and also twins and multiples workshops—for details of these, please email

Our infant feeding team are also running Zoom breastfeeding workshops:
