How to be referred

We are moving to digital referrals only, utilising the NHS eReferral Service (ERS). The system will be fully implemented by autumn 2018.

What are the benefits of ERS?

You will get better access to outpatient appointments after we move to 100% electronic referrals. It will give you ‘peace of mind’ and confidence that your hospital appointment is booked without the need to go back to your GP to confirm. The changes mean you will be able choose an appointment at a time and date that suits you and book your first outpatient appointment in one of the ways: 

  • at the point of referral, while you are at your GP appointment
  • via the national eReferral Service appointment line on 0345 608 8888 (Mon–Fri, 8am–8pm, and on weekends and bank holidays from 8am–4pm—please note this service is closed on Christmas Day)
  • online at using your computer, mobile phone or tablet
  • by Textphone on 0345 850 2250
