Eligibility and funding

Eligibility and funding criteria for fertility treatment at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Trust

We believe in treating all patients who have a reasonable chance of fertility success.

In order to be eligible for fertility treatment at The Fertility Centre, you must fulfil the following criteria:

Eligbility

  • The female partner must be less than 46-years-old by the time that treatment is carried out
  • The female partner should have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of less than 35kg/m2
  • A ‘Welfare of the Child’ assessment must be carried out

Funding

When it comes to paying for fertility treatment, there are two options:

  • NHS-funded referral
  • Private referral—if you are not eligible for funding from the NHS, you can elect to be seen as a private patient.

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has published a guideline on fertility treatment which covers what levels of funding should be available throughout England.

For more detailed information, please visit www.nice.org.uk.

NHS-funded referral

If eligible, NHS funding can cover the costs of assisted conception treatment.   If you are hoping to have fertility treatment on the NHS you will need a referral from your GP to the Fertility Clinic in Gynaecology Outpatients. Your GP can book you into this appointment through Choose and Book or by letter, urgent referrals can also be made by fax.

You can choose to be referred to this clinic at either Chelsea and Westminster Hospital or West Middlesex University Hospital- you do not need to live locally to be referred here.

At this appointment baseline investigations will be arranged for both male and female partners. Following the results of these tests, a care plan will be determined and, if appropriate, you may be referred to The Fertility Centre.

Private referral

Our clinics prides themselves on the ability to assist couples who have had unsuccessful IVF attempts at other providers and we operate an open referral criteria for private patients to enable us to help couples with complex fertility issues.

To make a private appointment you can complete our self-referral form and email it to .

At your first appointment baseline investigations will be arranged for both male and female partners.

Following the results of these tests, a care plan will be determined and, if appropriate, you may be referred to the clinic.

Please note payment for all treatment must be made when calling to commence your cycle or your treatment may be cancelled.
