West Middlesex celebrated its centenary on 17 Sep 2020, with Chief Executive Lesley Watts announcing a year of celebrations to highlight the staff, medical achievements and contributions of the hospital to the country and community.

West Mid opened in 1920 as a work infirmary for the poor and sick and played a notable role during both world wars providing medical care to London’s wounded. Today, West Middlesex is renowned in London and across the NHS for providing outstanding and innovative care for patients and is cherished by the community it serves.

Hospital Director Mark Titcomb says: “Over the past 100 years, West Middlesex University Hospital has been on a remarkable journey of pioneering, modernisation and expansion. Firmly rooted in the local community that it serves, the next 100 years will see West Mid flourish further and continue as a very special hospital delivering very special care. Happy 100th birthday!”

Together with the hospital charity CW+, the Trust will run a programme of activities over the next 12 months which will include a history-gathering project and heritage exhibition, the creation and installation of new commemorative spaces and commissions across the hospital estate, staff competitions, a special grant funding call and—COVID permitting—a major celebratory event to round off the centenary year in September 2021.
