Trust commits to support armed forces community with Silver Award in Defence Employer Recognition Scheme

29 September 2022

The Silver Award recognises our pledge to support the armed forces community of veterans, reservists, spouses and family members, as an employer.

On Wednesday 28 September 2022, our staff attended the NHS National Veteran Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA) Best Practice Symposium in Birmingham, where Trusts from across the UK shared their  learning.

Cathy Hill, Director of Nursing, Trevor Post, Violence and Aggression Case Manager, and Sarah Mills, Chief Cardiac Physiologist, were presented with the plaque that signifies our organisation's attainment of Veteran Aware accreditation. This recognises our pledge to improving NHS care for the armed forces community, which includes regular and reservist personnel, veterans, spouses and families.

Our Trust now holds a Silver Award for the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, meaning we support the armed forces community as an employer. This shows patients, staff, and those who may choose to work with us in the future, that we are committed to giving outstanding care and support to our staff and patients who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families.
