West Middlesex University Hospital shortlisted for two awards

Two innovative Trust projects have been shortlisted for the prestigious 2013 Health Service Journal (HSJ) awards.

Enhancing Care by Sharing Data and Information Award: This project lasted six months and brought together a multi disciplinary team from across the Trust to improve the performance and patient outcomes for the Cardiology Department. Through the use of a scorecard the department is now able to access up-to-date and accurate information. Now the operational team and cardiology department review the information on a monthly basis, enabling clinicians to improve patient care and safety.

Improving Environmental and Social Sustainability Awards: The Trust’s Sustainability and Energy projects were shortlisted for innovative ongoing initiatives which include upgrading computer equipment to make them more energy efficient and a forthcoming project to reduce printing expenditure; improving waste recycling and disposal with the aim of zero waste going to landfill. This project also involved an innovative Travel Plan scheme to encourage staff and visitors to use more environmentally friendly ways of getting to the hospital.

The 2013 HSJ Awards were particularly competitive with over 1,100 entries; more than ever before, the nominations in themselves are an achievement to be celebrated and recognition of the hard work of all the staff involved. The 2013 HSJ awards will be presented at Grosvenor House on 19 November 2013.

A third project reached the finals stage of the HSJ’s Efficiency Awards in the category of Efficiency in Information Technology.West Middlesex’s online point of care testing in accident and emergency project helps reduce patient waiting times by giving faster and improved quality test results.
