New Chief Executive to join Chelsea and Westminster in September

Tony Bell OBE, whose appointment as the new Chief Executive of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust was announced in May, will take up his post on Monday 3 September.

Tony Bell OBE, whose appointment as the new Chief Executive of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust was announced in May, will take up his post on Monday 3 September.

He will succeed Heather Lawrence OBE who leaves Chelsea and Westminster on Friday 29 June after 12 successful years as Chief Executive.

Tony Bell has 30 years’ experience of working in the NHS and a strong clinical background, having trained originally as a nurse. He is currently Chief Executive of Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust, a major university teaching hospital and was previously Chief Executive of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.

During her 12 years at the helm at Chelsea and Westminster, Heather Lawrence has led the Trust to achieve financial stability, Foundation Trust status and a reputation as one of the best performing NHS trusts in the country.

Dr Mike Anderson, the Trust’s Medical Director, will act up as Chief Executive during July and August to cover the period between Heather Lawrence leaving and Tony Bell joining the Trust.
