West Middlesex University Hospital is to host an action-packed day of sport, fitness, free heath checks, cooking demonstrations, behind the scenes tours, live entertainment and careers advice at its Open Day on Thursday 5 September 2019.

Can you keep up with the professionals? Harlequin’s players will be giving talks about their diet and running sports sessions. The local police service will be challenging visitors to a ‘beat the bleep’ test. The Indian Gymkhana will be offering free sports trials and teams from Sky TV will be running exercise classes.

Would you like tips and advice about healthy eating? Local GPs and community services will be showcasing healthy eating demonstrations, with a particular focus on diet tips for people with diabetes. The hospital’s catering team will be running cooking sessions and offering free tasters and there will be cycling challenges run by the Trust’s therapists.

Ever had your stats checked? There will be a number of free health checks available for visitors throughout the afternoon. Visit the heart team’s stand to find out about your blood pressure, BMI and cholesterol levels. Thinking about quitting smoking? Head to one of the community stands to check your carbon dioxide levels and get tips on how to break the habit.

West Middlesex University Hospital Director, Mark Titcomb, says: “As a local hospital, our role is not only to care for patients when they are here, but to ensure that we help patients when they leave the hospital so they can continue to look after themselves and get help from the right organisation, when needed. Having so many healthcare providers from the local community be a part of our Open Day this year is a testament to how we are all working together to improve the health of our local community.”

The Open Day is also an opportunity for people who may be thinking about a career in the healthcare sector. There will be teams on hand to provide career advice, information about apprenticeships, internships and volunteering.

In addition, throughout the afternoon there will be live entertainment, activities for children, and we will be unveiling a special exhibition in memory of the 390 men from Isleworth who served in World War I. Volunteers from the Isleworth 390 project have been researching the lives of each of the servicemen whose names can be found inscribed on the war memorial outside Our Lady of Sorrows and St Bridget of Sweden Church in Isleworth, Middlesex.

The West Middlesex University Hospital Open Day takes place on Thursday 5 September 2019 from 2–5pm—Twickenham Road, Isleworth, Middlesex, TW7 6AF.
