Improving the patient environment

The Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) was formed to address environmental issues within the hospital. For example, it monitors infection control, catering, transport, patient concerns and complaints, and the overall presentation of the hospital.

The group is led by the Chief Nurse and Director of Patient Flow & Patient Experience, Matrons, Senior Nurses, and Patient and Public Representatives. The group meets once a month.

The PEAT carries out regular inspections of clinical areas which involves scoring categories such as cleanliness and tidiness of facilities and equipment, quality of food, the general environment, infection control, and provisions for privacy and dignity. Areas that do not meet our quality standards are required to make immediate improvements to any problems identified.

PEAT occasionally need new Patient or Public Representatives—to find out about openings or for more information please contact Sian Nelson at sian.nelson@chelwest.nhs.uk.
