Patient environment

Keeping the hospital clean to provide an excellent environment for patients, visitors and staff is a top priority for Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and our cleaning contractors ISS Mediclean.

The National Patient Safety Agency's Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) programme carries out an annual assessment of the standards of cleanliness in all hospitals and inpatient units with 10 or more beds.

PEAT teams consist of not only a range of staff but also patients. They look at levels of cleanliness, some aspects of infection control (such as hand hygiene), and the quality of the environment (such as decoration, maintenance and lighting). They also carry out a separate assessment of the standard of food offered to patients.

Each hospital is then given a score of 'Excellent', 'Good', 'Acceptable', 'Poor' or Unacceptable' for the three areas of environment (including cleanliness), privacy and dignity, and food.

Our performance in the PEAT assessment will be updated on this website on an annual basis.
