Cancer patients who have received treatment at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital rated their experiences highly in the results of the latest national survey.

The National Cancer Patient Experience Survey is co-ordinated by Quality Health on behalf of NHS England to monitor patients’ experiences on all aspects of their cancer care. In total 165 patients, who had received cancer treatment at either Chelsea and Westminster or West Middlesex University Hospital responded to the survey.

The Trust came out higher than the national average in a number of key areas including patients having access to specialist cancer nurses to answer their queries as well as family members having the opportunity to talk with doctors and have their questions answered. Patients also said that they were given information about their treatment and details of support groups as well as having the opportunity to discuss any worries or fears with staff during their visit.

Director of Nursing Vanessa Sloane said “I would like to thank all our patients for taking the time to complete this survey and providing valuable feedback to help us continue to improve our services.

“Receiving a diagnosis of cancer affects people in different ways and anything we can do to help make this easier for our patients and their loved ones may make a significant difference to their overall experience. Being given clear information about your diagnosis and treatment options and the ability to have questions answered by experts can help reduce anxiety and stress and we are very pleased that our patients have told us we are doing this well.

“The results of this survey reflect the hard work and dedication of all our staff who work so well together to provide the best possible care for all our patients.”
