Feeding your baby

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is working towards becoming a ‘Baby Friendly’ hospital. We are very proud to have our Stage Two Accreditation and this reinforces that our maternity unit is working very hard towards achieving full accreditation.

We recognise that how you decide to feed your baby is an important decision. Therefore, at your 34 week appointment with your midwife, a feeding discussion will take place.

All new mothers are supported to return home breastfeeding successfully and we have one of the best breastfeeding initiation rates in the country—more than 95% of women who give birth at Chelsea and Westminster start breastfeeding.

The Baby Friendly Initiative is an international programme led by UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) which encourages and supports women to breastfeed.

The Baby Friendly Initiative works with health professionals to ensure that mothers receive the best possible support to help them breastfeed their babies.
